Mrs. Laura Ziogas
My name is Laura Ziogas. I was born and raised in a small village in Greece, and moved to the US at the age of 17 where I have been an Astoria native since. One of my greatest passions is art, and so I attained a Bachelors of Art and Elementary Education from Queens College. Although, art is what I love to do, teaching is what I was meant to do. I focus on relaying my knowledge through a different art- the art of teaching and learning through my students. As a substitute teacher, I was fortunate to have taught various grade levels such as second, third, fifth grade, and high school; hence gaining the necessary experience to know what I wanted to do next. So, I began my career at St. Demetrios Elementary School. While teaching, I persued a Masters degree in Educational Administration and Supervision at St. John's University.
One thing I love about teaching is that there is never a dull moment. My students make my life an adventure-in a good way, and I'm sure not many can say that. Everyday I walk into my classroom and see my students smile at me. I think of how fortunate I am to be there. No matter what type of day I'm having as soon as I see those little faces my days always get better.
When I’m not teaching I love to spend time with my family. My husband and my twin boys are the apples of my eye. With that being said I don’t usually have any free time, but when I do have time I love to watch Netflix and read books. My favorite movie is “Pride and Prejudice,” and my favorite book is “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho.
