The Elementary School is the beginning of your child’s educational journey. We say journey, because as parents we all want our children’s academic life-long successes to commence with the important foundations of education and life values. The beginning of the educational journey can be a difficult one for students and parents alike. Letting your children go off on their own as they enter into the educational environment is not as simple as one may have thought it would be before you had child. At Saint Demetrios we understand your concerns. We will help make that first step as comfortable as possible; Saint Demetrios will become their home away from home.
We believe that at our Elementary School, laying a solid foundation is important….to offer students the tools necessary to excel further in achieving their academic studies and life goals. Our class sizes are small enough to enable teachers to provide students the attention they deserve. That is why our students consistently score above the state reference level on all state exams.
Saint Demetrios will mean the world to your child. It will challenge them to do better academically, socially, and spiritually. As our students grow, we are committed and dedicated to helping them realize their full potential by building their self-esteem and teaching values like honesty, respect, hard work, and responsibility.
As you send your children through the Saint Demetrios School system, we know that you will feel confident that they are getting a holistic education and value system reflective of an Orthodox upbringing. We strive to instill in our students the pride in their ethnic heritage, by teaching Orthodox Christian religion and the rich Hellenic history and culture.
As the Assistant Principal of the Elementary School, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to our St. Demetrios family. Our family consists of many different components, each important in their own way. A quality education is the result of a close working partnership and collaboration between administrators, teachers, parents, and students. We are very fortunate to have a New York Certified staff, many with advanced degrees dedicated not only to their career, but to your child, offering the curriculum material in such creative lesson plans that engage students and enhance their love for learning.
On a more personal note, I have been with the Saint Demetrios School system for twenty-four years. It is indeed an honor and a privilege that many of my former students have chosen to return to their academic roots and enroll their own children in our school. This reinforces their solid foundation and fond memories, which in return have perpetuated the traditions and success of our thriving community.
