Coach Wehye

     Coach Chris Wehye was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York.  He played High School Basketball, as a 3-year Starter for John Jay High School, in Brooklyn.  From 2003-2005, he played for Cecil College in Maryland.  Later, he transferred to Division 1 Quinnipiac University, located in Hamden, CT. While playing basketball, he also obtained a bachelor’s degree in Sociology.

 

     After college, Coach Wehye played professional basketball in Costa Rica, Germany, and Paris. He also had the opportunity to play for the world-famous Harlem Globetrotters.  In NYC, he is considered a streetball legend, playing and winning championships in notable playgrounds such as: Rucker Park, West 4th, and Nike Pro City, just to name a few. 

 

     Prior to his employment at Saint Demetrios, he taught Physical Education in several other schools, including:  Crossroad Juvenile Detention Facility, Our Saviour Lutheran School, Whitestone Day School for Autism and various other after school programs.  These jobs helped prepare him to adapt to any school setting.  

 

      Coach Wehye's journey has now brought him to Saint Demetrios where he continues to bring a strong sports culture to our school which nurtures sportsmanship and school pride.
